Grease Buster

A new, self-funded service to prevent sewer blockages through the recycling of cooking oil into biodiesel.

Grease Container

Grease Container

The Grease Buster container makes it easy to recycle waste cooking oil. Pour it straight from the pan into the top, where food scraps are filtered out. It is designed to trap smells inside, and feel at home on kitchen counters next to the hob. The cube-like shape tessellates for efficient distribution to Northumbrian Water customers.

Once people's Grease Busters are full, they take them to a supermarket car park, where they tip their oil into a recycling container. Northumbrian Water would partner with biodiesel processing companies, who would empty these containers, and then recycle the cooking oil into fuel, which burns up to 30% cleaner than regular diesel.
